Herculean, I have need for as many services as this little machine will offer. It never did, however, print iPad documents, is that ePrint? I bought it before I realized this would be an issue. I would like it to be as full service a wireless printer as it's capable of. It was before I did whatever I did.... You had said to connect a cable, so I did. If it would be better for me to unconnect, I can do that too. You have gotten me this far, thank you for being so patient.

Hi monap,
Will you be using this printer primarily to print from an iPad or a Macbook Pro.
With an iPad, once you connect wirelessly to the same wireless router which your printer is connected too, you should be able to print from the iPad to the printer.
To connect your printer to the linksys:
1. From your iPad, connect wireless to the printer's network from the Settings>Wireless menu in the iPad (printer network name should be similar to HP-Setup-xx-Deskjet 3050A J611). If you dont see the printer network name, restore network defaults from printer front panel in the wireless settings menu.
2. After successfully connecting to the printer, open Safari and type in 192.168.223.1 in the addressbar and press enter.
-Click on Wireless Setup Wizard
3. Select your network name and leave the password blank since you did not set one.
4. Press Next or Apply to connect the printer to the router.
Let me know how it goes..

The ipad, ipod, and two computers are all connected to the linksys, which is now "home". All the devices work except the wireless printer, which is still "not connected. I tried the string of numbers you suggested and was told "page not found"...? The iPad will not print because the 3050 does not have air print, something I had never heard of until after I bought it. If I can get it to print wirelessly from my two computers I will be satisfied. Thank you so much for your patience with me.

Your Deskjet 3050A is Airprint compatible for the iPad and definitely usable on your Macbooks.
If you have the latest OS X Mavericks, follow this link for detailed instructions: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04510394
Otherwise, use this guide: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02722113

I got this far:

- Select the USB Device, and then click Continue to start the connection setup process.
- Check the box to configure the printer wirelessly.

Hi monap,
I understand that the connection process can be confusing at times and definitely would like to see you get all you can out of your feature-packed printer.
At this point, the next best thing for you is to call HP support to guide you step-by-step thru the process.
The contact number is here: 800-HP invent or 800-474-6836
If you wish to have an online chat session, you can do that too here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/weInput?product=5061092&lc=en&cc=us&tmp_weDest=https%3A%2F%2Fh100...
Best Regards.

I never should have mentioned the iPad, that is irrelevant. I have two Apple computers running 10.6.8 and 10.8.5 I want to print wirelessly. Let's just work with the 10.6.8 and forget everything else. I note in my system preferences the 3050 is now listed twice, just another problem as I will probably have to delete one. What I need to do is get this printer to recognize the computers and print wirelessly. Right now it is connected to one computer with the cable. The wireless system is "home", works well with all devices. The printer still says "not connected". Thank you for not abandoning me, I feel so stupid.

Thank you, Herculean, for all the effort. I followed your advice and called the support phone, bottom line is the printer is working fine and I am a happy camper. You did a great job trying to get through to me, but I am dumb as dirt. A for effort! And I will recommend the online support.
