I have a Macbook pro running OS 10.6.8 and an HP 8500 AIO, but I cannot find the way to turn off those **bleep** notifications as IMCARMEL describes.

I can get to "All settings" but cannot find anything labeled "Message Center".

Can someone help me out?  Running HP Utility 5.15.0

Many thanks in advance for help with this very annoying and customer-service horror.

Please answer.  I know there are HP employees on here.  Please answer how to disable ink notifications in the Mac OS (10.6.8).

Thank you!

Hi HP8500JGH,

I understand that you would like to turn off your ink alerts. I will do my best to help you resolve this issue.

Controlling alerts on Mac 10.6

1. In order to control the alert messages on Mac 10.6 you need to go to system preferences and open the Growl icon seen at the bottom of System Preferences.

2. Once in “Growl” you will need to click on the Applications tab. Under this tab it should list an HP Events application with a check box next to it allowing you to enable or disable the alerts. You can also configure the alerts settings by hitting the configure button on the bottom of this screen.

3. For more specific alert settings select the Notifications tab in the Configure screen.
Applications Settings

Once done I suggest a restart of the computer.

I hope this helped, let me know.

Thank you.

Hi HP8500JGH,

If you do not have Growl in your Mac then maybe the Mac 10.7 instructions will work for you.

Controlling alerts on Mac 10.7

1. When trying to control alerts on Mac 10.7 you will first need to open the HP Utility.

2. When in the HP Utility open, up the Message Center. When in the message center you will see a Settings button on the far right side of the window, click on this.

3. In the settings menu you will be able to dismiss the alerts after so many seconds or you can uncheck the box for Display HP Alerts. You will also be able to control the email alerts.

I truly hope this helps resolve your pop up issue.

Thank you,

I tried both of the suggestions and both dont work. I am on OS x 10.6.8. there is no growl and when i go into the hp message center there is no settings area.

See the attached screen shot.  "All settings" brings this up.  Nothing for disabling the **bleep** notifications!  How well does HP know its own sw?  This is summarily IRRITATING.  Try this, try that, ad infinitum.  Would someone actually spend the time to find out & communicate to me (and others) how to stop these dumb things, PLEASE.

I am away from the printer which is why the statuses are showing unknown, I assume.  Or should I be able to see that anytime I am net-connected?

Thanks for your reply. But when I go to my Photosmart C5580 All in one, advanced , there is not the option that you speak of. So I am still in a quandry. :indifferent:

Simpler way:

Respond to the email as if you were purchasing ink, then back out before you actually order.

It worked for me.
