HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just bought an HP Officejet 6978 to replace my current HP Officejet 8000 Wireless in order to take advantage of the new ink subscription program.  My question is: should I first remove the current printer, driver and software before installing the new printer or go ahead with the new install and then remove the old device, etc.?  Any tips would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you,

Don

If you are no longer using the 8000 printer, uninstall the printer programs from Programs and Features > reboot / restart the computer and log in

Download a copy of the Full Feature Software (for the 6978) > save the file to your Downloads folder > Double-Click on the file to start the installation.  When the installation appears to have completed, reboot / restart the computer and log in to allow the last part of the install to complete.

Install Full Feature Software - Printer

Operating System recently migrated to Windows 10 and / or to re-install the printer software:

  1. If using a USB cable to connect the printer and computer, disconnect the cable
  2. Create a Restore Point
  3. Reinstall / Update your PDF Reader (Adobe Reader DC / Foxit)
  4. This works best if the computer's Windows (10) Updates are current - check if you are unsure
  5. Update your HP Drivers (or other vendor computer) - printer software likes updated Drivers
  6. Verify / Switch-on Network Discovery and Print Sharing
  7. Open Printer Website Driver Support Page >
  8. Download a fresh copy of the Full Feature software >
  9. Remove existing Printer Software from Programs and Features / Apps and Features / All Apps / Devices and Printers >
  10. Shut down the computer > boot, and log in >
  11. Install Full Feature Software (find in your Downloads folder > Double-Click on the file) >
  12. Restart the computer and log in to finish the installation
