Hello,

when I was trying different settings and exploring EWS, Apps,... on X476dw I set admin password in EWS which is now unfortunately forgotten. Most of the features are locked now and I can not unlock them. Also I can not use device the way I would like to.

Would you please tell me, how to reset admin password in EWS on X476dw?

Thaks!

Have you tried to restore factory set defaults from Setup/Tools meny on control panel.

Warning:

Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the product and network settings to the

factory defaults, and it also clears the fax header name, phone number, and any stored faxes in the

product memory. This procedure also clears the fax phone book, and deletes any pages that are stored

in the memory. The procedure then automatically restarts the product.

Can not do that, this function is locked on printer's control panel.

Then I suggest to contact HP Authorised Service Provider. There is no other way user can reset EWS settings on X476 except by resetting to factory defaults.

Hello

Please contact HP via Phone/chat to get the advanced reset steps.

The steps will reset the EWS password also.

Hello,

I would recommend you to try a Semi-full reset from Support menu.

Below is the link to enter support menu:

Once you enter support scroll down and access Reset under that select Semi full reset.

The below settings are cleared if semi-full reset is performed.

  • Clear fax journal information
  • Clear all speed dials/broadcast list.
  • Clear personal header information
  • Clear Instant Share Settings
  • Clear wireless settings. (IP, SSID, WEP)

Follow these steps to open the printer's EWS:

Open an Internet browser. Use Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher or Netscape 4.75 and higher.

Enter the URL of the printer in the address box, and then press Enter.

EWS has three main tabs (Figure 1).

Home

Settings

Networking

Go to Setting and select option under Admin password and clear the admin password and save setting.

THERE IS AN EASIER WAY!

Guaranteed to work.  Long story short - I had a former employee leave with all of the admin passwords and when we had to update the network settings, we were completely locked out of the device.  This worked.

1.  Turn on the printer

2.  Press the back button FOUR times consectutively

3.  This will take you to a Support Menu

4.  Scroll down to "Partial Reset"

5.  Press OK

6.  This will turn off your printer; wait about 2 minutes

7.  Turn on the printer.

8.  This will prompt you to reconfigure the printer (such as select language).

9.  Your Admin locks will be unlocked.

10.  Go into Tools, choose restore factory settings

This process will effectively get you a "new" printer and after restoration of settings, you can change all of the passwords, etc.

Good Luck!
