OfficeJet Pro 8740
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I'm trying to change settings through the HP Utility and it is asking for my user name and password. Where/how to I find out what this is?

I've tried my OS User name and password - no luck. I've tried my eprint username and password - no luck.

I do not remember being asked for a user name and password when I set up the printer.

Any ideas?

Hello @ttivel,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! 🙂 I understand you are trying to change some settings for your HP Officejet Pro 8740 but it is requiring a admin/password combo which you don't believe you setup.

By default, it should be admin for the admin field and the password field blank.

If this did not help, you should be able to reset the network defaults on the front panel:

Wireless Menu > Wireless Settings > Restore Network Defaults > Yes

Did this help? Are you now able to access the HP Utility to change the settings?

I will watch for your reply.

Nope. Didn't work. When I called in to tech support last Thursday, it turns out there's a fault in the bios and I was told HP would generate a fix.

This didn't work. Do you have any other ideas?
