We have a color laser jet pro MFP M477 that we use at our work and only want to print papers in black and white. I understand that you need the color cartridges as well but how do I set the settings on the printer to only print in black and white and use as minimal amount of color as possible? We refilled all the cartridges which was a big expense and have continued to only print in black and white but all the colors are draining equally. I have found the set up and gone to supply settings but not sure which is best for my situation to choose to use the least amount possible of the color. \
Thanks

You can set the printer to print in black only by changing the default settings in the print driver.
Depending on your copmputer operating system, go into Printers and Devices. For example,
In Windows 7, click the Start button, and then click on "Devices and Printers." Then, right click on the M477 printer icon and select "Printing Preferences."
Once you have the "Printing Preferences" window open, click on the Color tab.
Under Color Options, select Manual, and then click the "Settings" button. On the Details window, set all color options to black only, then click OK.
When you are back on the Color tab, set "Print in Greyscale" to On, then click the "Apply" button.

Hi -
Another option is to use the Restrict Color feature in the HP Embedded Web Server.
You can disable color prints from here.

Finally solved it today. Went to the website and downloaded a new driver.
20160921. The advanced turn down by default is not open, so you don't know that there is anything there.
Just select it and change all the fields to Black only. That has done it for me with one exception.
We have one OS 9 Machine and using the Macintosh OS 9 IP Printer utiluty, I have had no problem printing from the OS 9 machine to the M477. However, I cannot figure out how to prohibit it from printing in Color. Anyone got any ideas?
Thought that I could set it at the printer level, but that doesn't seem to work. Can it be done by some type of security? Will put this into a new post with the correct Mac OS association.
