Have tried to upgrade firmware through Windows Explorer and an IP address. The printer does not complete the update, it hangs at 6/6 A/F on the printer panel. Even after recyling power it ends up at the same!
Please help me recover use of the printer.

Do not press the button until the memory starts to count on the display. After you press the button wait for all 3 lights to come on solid to continue the procedure.

First off if you get to that message it means the update has loaded on the printer, but when trying to initialize the printer it is getting stuck at that portion of the system load. Was there an issue with the printer that caused you to try and update the firmware. One thing you can do is remove all the toner cartridges from the printer and then turn it on and see if it gets any further in the system load. If you still do not get further you could try a NVRAM reset which may or may not help you. See the attached.

Dear Davidzuts, done that and still the printer does not even reach initialization stage. It does not respond to NVRAM reset.
The issue before firmware update was that print quality was bad, sometimes color not appearing at all, and I thought I should update. Sadly it did not complete the update process to the reboot stage, hanging at 6/6 A/F.
What can I do? How can I reverse the update and recover use of the printer? Please help!

First off the firmware update did or did not take place but what you see on the menu is the firmware (operatng system) loading. The upgrade when taking place looks different as it will be loading and then erasing and loading, etc. Your formatter has firmware and whether it is the latest version or one you had before it is just not initializing. That said you need to do the NVRAM procedure again as it should work since it occurs way before you reach the stage you are getting to. If the firmware update did not work due to a problem you would receive a message of RFU error reload. Since you did not get that message the firmware loaded but for some reason can not complete the loading of the operating system while booting. The early version of the firmware would only have the hp logo flashing on and off and then you would see the initializing on the menu. The new version does the 1/6 to 6/6 and AF to FF and then comes to ready.

Dear davidzuts,
True whats loading is the new firmware version since it had earlier reported updating, only it was unable to reboot througg to ready, hanging at 6/6 and A/F.
Further information is that I updated the software through IP from a PC that was no longer printing to the printer using network IP. Could that be the source of the problem?
For some reason, pressing the required key for NVRAM reset right after powering the printer do not have any effect, NVRAM reset is not working at all. Not even the Cold reset.
What would be the reason?

Dear davidzuts, thanks.
I also had to do a cold reset, which now clears a lot, including Printer Serial No.!
Any hope I can re-enter printer serial no.?
The new formware is in place!
