HP Laserjet P2055dn (CE459A)

In my last post I had problems with blotches down one side of the page

and that was solved by a new toner but unfortunatelly the new toner

is not producing good quality printouts.

Could someone please comment on what the problem could be / can it be fixed ?

Printer paper - general copy/laser/fax/inkjet 80g/m2

Printer settings:

Plain paper

1st - 3rd printouts Fastres1200

4th -600 Econo

Please note: The quality of the scanned printouts is not perfect - grey due to

scanning has not been removed. 4th printout is shown with reverse lighting to

better show the streaking.

The 1st and 2nd printouts show how for some reason on double sided prints (two

pages which are exactly the same) the second page has more streaks than the first.

3rd and 4th pages are with different resolutions and with/without econo mode.

You can see how toner streaks are shown in the vertical direction and toner is not

constrained to the outline of some letters eg some of the capital I's have rounded ends

and there are streaks in places.

OK, I'm big enough to own up - I made a terrible blunder (small but in the end terrible 😉

In my haste to try out the new toner, I neglected to see the small black paper under the

cover of the imaging drum 😉 (although it clearly states on the box to remove the

paper and the foil). I removed the paper blew out the small amount of debris  accumulated

due to my "lack of patience" and did a cleaning page and a printout - all letters printed

OK - I'm relieved - everything is back to normal.

Sorry for the false alarm and thank you for your support ! - I will try not to make

similar blunders in the future 😉

The cartridge is at 100% 19 pages printed

I will go step by step through the links you gave but a few things are not clear:

Looking at your first link would point 4. toner scatter / loose toner cover my problem ?

If yes , how much heavier paper do you select /  what is selecting the heavier paper doing ?

Could the paper be causing my problems / anything special to look for as far as the paper spec goes

to get good quality printouts ?

When I look at the second link, I really find in it only the first link as relevant.

Hello Vjekobalas,

On a ideal scenario we need to select the immediate paper weight which is below the default selection.

Sometimes paper mismatch can be an issue.

Well there are multiple scenarios that we can look at, defective toner,  toner leaking and sometimes it can be the drum that is causing the issues.

Ideally once all these are checked and we believe that the issues should be taken care off.

OK, what you're saying sounds reasonable, so unless you have a specific

order in which I should attack this, I will start with changing the paper weight

and doing another printout -could you answer my first question about what paper

weight I should change the settings to / what the change is actually doing so I don't

"damage" something 😉

I think I will try another type of paper after that test also - is 80gm/m2 termed "plain"  weight ?

and is that the paper I should be using ?- I'm gripping at straws as everything worked

properly before and now somehow a not so cheap printer is giving unsatisfactory results

and I'm playing with it to get it to work.

Is there any particular combination of settings or tests you would suggest to

rule out certain things like defective toner / toner leaking ?

Hello Vjekobalas,

The paper weight settings can be set through the link i have mentioned below.

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c02697738#N1023D.

You may select the heavier paper selection by selecting a heavier weight paper type in the drop-down list. ( You can actually select any under the heavy paper selection as we are only re-working on the settings).

If this does not fix the issue then we have to perform resets.

Resets options are as mentioned below.

To much stuff to go through, but a simple test will tell you a lot.  You have to perform a half test.  To do this you put a sheet of paper on the front fold down manual feed tray 1.  You then perform a self test from the menu (config page will do).  When the back edge of the paper enters the printer, quickly open the toner door to stop the printing.  Now remove the toner cartridge and look at the image on the unfused paper below.  If the defect is present you still have a toner issue and it has nothing to do with the type of paper.  If the defect is not present, then yes it could be the media, settings or could even be an issue with the teflon sleeve of the fuser being bad.  Since you had a issue before with toner and getting good toner cartridges seems to be an issue in your location you have to eliminate the toner cartridge first.  Just because this one now prints where the other had defects does mean this cartridge is 100% good.  A bad drum or wiper blade could cause the issue you are having.  The half test will tell you.
