I accidentally discovered how to enter the engineering menu as I was cleaning the panel on my Photosmart C4680, and after seeing the hidden menu, my inner geek could not stand still, and I explored it. I think I must have triggered something though, because now when I turn off the printer, the little display remains on and it displays some sort of test pattern with white squares.
How do I resolve this?
Here's a pic.
I might also have messed up something else, is there some easy way to full reset the printer so it goes back to factory settings, just in case? Everything except the display issue seems to be working fine though.

That didn't work, but I fixed it anyway.
I had activated some developer mode, all I had to do was enter again the secret menu again (by randomly tapping the buttons I eventually accessed it again), scanned through all the options, and then selected "boot to user mode" (or something like that). After that I turned off the printer, then back on, and it was fully reseted, it asked me for the country, region, and I had to do the calibration again, after that the printer resumed normal function.

Actually there is another thing that went wrong. Now everytime I power it off, then on again, the menu is in English even though I want it set to Italian. And I don't even know how to enter the engineering menu anymore. So please some HP technician tell me how to factory reset the printer so it goes back into normal operation mode.

I would suggest you reset the printer as described in this document. After this you can set the language as described in this document.
