Officejet 6500a Plus

I have a hp officejet 6500a plus that sticks on the install printer head when doing a full reset and now it is stuck at that point and will not move on to the next step. I turn it on and the setup starts over and ends at the install print cartridge and I dont know how to proceed from here or exit this loop. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Hi! @fishcrazy13, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand that you have print head issues with your printer.

Don't worry I'd like to help.

Did you make any software or hardware changes to your printer?

Try performing a  hard reset on your printer and check if it helps.

Press the Power button () to turn off the product.
 NOTE:
The product might not turn off after pressing the Power button. Continue to the next step regardless.
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
Wait 30 seconds.
Replug the power cord into the electrical outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
Press the Power button () to turn on the product.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot carriage jam issues.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a beautiful day ahead! 🙂

I have tried the hard reset method and I get the same result. When the printer is powered up it opens to a "press continue to start setup" window. This just continues the loop as after pressing continue it asks you to turn off the power and remove the cartdriges and the print head and reinstall the print head and cartdridges. When I power on the same process happens all over again. I dont know if it performed the full reset or not. That is as far as i got. It did initally ask me to set my language as well as my country. But I am stuck in the loop now and it seems forever more.

I did do a repair on the printer which is what started me down this path in the first place. It had a broken gear which I repaired and replaced the printer back in operating condition. Printer worked fine for a while and the repaired gear failed again which I then repaired again using a different kind of epoxy which seems to be holding fine so far. But upon initial power on after this second repair the carrage would not travel all the way to the right to seat properly due to the ink pot not traveling to the proper place in the cycle therefore blocking the carrage from reseating properly and therefore giving another error message (different from this current problem I am having). I found the issue there and when the carrage began to cycle properly I started the reset procedure by holding down the power on button till the light by in the bottom left front of the printer started flashing. Then I used the secret key strokes to enter the reset menu. Press the unlit home button location then the return button and then the home button twice then the screen appears. I then used the perform full reset option and here we are now stuck in HP loop hell.

So if anyone knows how I can moove on to thte next step please give me a hand with this problem. It is driving me nuts! I might also add that I have not pluged back in to the router yet if that has anything to do with it as all I wanted to do at the time was print a report from the tools menue of the printer to see how it worked. Would pluging the printer into the network router help?

@fishcrazy13, Thanks for your response and time.

Kudos to you for trying out the steps.

Please try to perform a semi full reset on your printer and check if it helps.

Since the steps to perform semi full reset is confidential I will send you the steps in a private message.

Please keep a watch on your inbox.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Cheers! 🙂

Thanks for your response but I was unable to get any response from the key sequence. Probably because I can't get to the home screen. I did try a semi reset as it is called when i get the menue from holding down the power button till i get the flashing light at the bottom left of printer and then press TL/BL/TL/TL. I tried the semi reset to no avail though. I ended up right back in the same loop. When i reinstall the printhead and cartredge  and power back on the printer asks me to do the same thing again. It never goes beyond this point.

@fishcrazy13, Thanks for your quick response and time.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned even after the performing the semi full reset the issue still persists.

It looks to be a hardware issue, Please contact HP support for service options.

I'll watch your reply!

I have had no luck contacting HP in the past and therefore I think I will pass and hope that someone else will see this and respond. It may be a hardware issue but if that is the case maybe someone here has had this issue and will respond. To buy new hardware and pay the HP support fee will be mor than the printer is worth I'm sure. I can buy printers like this one all day long for $10 or so. I guess the reason for this give away price is that these HP printers are just not deemed anything other than disposable and probably not made to a standard that they will last for very long. So they can sell you another one I suppose. Not a very nobel business attitude. Thanks for your attempt to help though.
