Same printer, same problem, same approximate age. Have tried "rebooting" it various ways and none of them are resolving the problem.

HP needs to address this problem as there are so many with the same issue!!

This printer is garbage. There is absolutely no fix for this problem. It really should be recalled. Done with HP. I'm hitting the social networks with the issue and let's see who else has the problem.

It seems to me HP has a define problems with these printers and should take care of it. My printer is just over a year old( 20 days) therefore no warranty. I am getting sick of buying a new printer every couple years. HP needs to stand behind THIER products or I will be forced to look elsewhere. 20 days! Geesh, it's like there is self destruct mode on these. My display is almost all white, tried unplugging numerous times. Tried previous thread fixes, it's messed up very disappointed to say the least.

Try this:

With screwdriver open the top four screws.

Carefully take LCD off.

You will notice two cables, detach them carefully - the big one is data cable, the white small one is voltage cable.

The problem seems to be with voltage cable. Wiping accurately it just the contacts with something sharp to remove the residue should suffice. If not, you can cut just a very little from top - that contacts are still present and reinsert.

This is about WHITE POWER CABLE, do not cut data.

People report high success rates!

My 8600 pro arrives today, I am checking for all its family problems - and this looks like the ONLY problem that is hard and unsolvable. I hope this helps somebody, and also me in the next few months should I encounter it.

Same problem also for me!

Display is very clear!

The printer is 13 month old and it has just went out warranty from one month!

I alwasy bought hp printers from my first computer (1990) but now it's over! no more hp printers!

The Hazy / Silver / Dim screen problem on the OfficeJet Pro 8600 series seems to be a common DEFECT.  Although many of us have printers that are out of warranty, we still have rights under US Law, with respect to inherently deffective goods (Lemmon Laws).  I suggest HP offer a recall of these items.  Anyone who is experiencing this problem, please respond to this post and we can start organizing a formal group approach to getting HP to step up to the plate and make it right!

I have the same problem.  The printer worked great for the first 13 months, then the screen started to fade.  Now it is completely blank, and no amount of rebooting helps.

Assuming that there is no fix outside of warranty (and there is no way I plan to give HP more money for an inherently defective product), is there a work around solution?  I cannot open the driver application that I just downloaded from HP, but is there any way to command the printer to make copies or scans from my computer without having to use the touchscreen?  I'm almost willing to forgive HP if there is a work around.  But not if I lose most of this machine's functionality because the touchscreen no longer works.
