Hi Liz

I remember I had posted that solution some time back, good to hear you got it working again.

I got an offer from somebody at HP Support to buy a refurbished printer, but when I checked Amazon had them cheaper!! When I told them that, they dropped the price, but guess what - they want all my credit card info over the phone!! I asked them if they were trying to scam me. Then insult of insults, when I refuse they offer me ink cartridges for the %#$&* printer and give me a deadline to accept .

What jokers. They don't even have a secure payment portal. What kind of company is this? How do I know who I am even talking to on their help lines? They all use fake names anyway.

Can you believe that HP has a division which sells secure payment portal software and they themselves DON'T use it?

Ha Ha Ha, I'm laughing so hard. I sent an email with my concerns to the CEO and I got the same form letter.

That was a month ago. Nothing since.

If the HP CEO reads this they should be very worried. I have been a customer of HP for a long, long time and it's unbelievable that they have so little respect for their PAYING customers. If this is their level of service then the name of HP will soon be forgotten.

Lucky we that we can fix it ourselves.

For those that have replaced an smd, can you please post the smd specs. In my case, I believe I need to replace C360. I have the tools to replace it, but I don't have a capacitor measuring meter, which wouldn't work even if I did since the piece is already burnt.

Thanks

Hi, just fix this f....  display !

Thanks to member ??? (sorry I've forgoten his name) about faulty capacitor.

This is the C365 SMD (as show on the photo).

I've tested without this capacitor and the display works good.

For security, take a SMD capacitor (same size but don't now if it is same value 🙂 ) on an old HDD board and solded it on the dsplay board, and  the display still working !

So, wait and see

As far as I can remember the cap has markings on it to show what it is.

You have to replace it with one of the same microfarad capacity.

The voltage is just the max it can take before it blows, so replace with one

either the same or higher voltage.

Since the problem is caused by an overvoltage from the mainboard it is

probably best to use a higher voltage cap.

Look on the cap for the specs.

For those that need a reasonably good meter, try this one for about USD30

http://www.amazon.com/Sinometer-MY68-Autorange-Digital-Multimeter/dp/B000J40T3U

It can test caps, diodes, rectifiers, transistors etc.

I'm another one that has a white screen.  I was able to see it somewhat at a 45 degree angle but that has now pretty much faded away.  Tried to make a copy today.  I had to shut all of the lights out in my office and still had to guess which icon was which.  Junk printer.

Off to the store to buy an Epson printer.

I just completed a printer survey from PC Magazine. I let them know what I think of my HP Officejet 8600.

I also tried a number of things in an attempt to fix the same problem.  I eventually - and inadvertantly -  fixed the problem when I looked under the touchpad and fiddled with a small black plastic cover (presumably where the wiring from the main printer body enters the touchpad).  When I looked at the touchpad screen again, the display was as bright as it ever was.  I can only think that the wiring connections were not as good as they could be and that moving the connector cover had restored connection..

I am unable to loosen the screws in order to remove the display. Since it's at an angle, how does anyone get it apart?? Thanks.
