honey! the users guide comes the 'product'. Or its on the disk. Wheneverything else fails...follow the instructions.

Waste of time. You shouldn't direct people to the HP Support Page. It is convoluted and never has the answer you are looking for.

You will never find that answer at the HP Customer Support Center. They just take you in circles once you insert your product description. They simply cannot answer these questions:

1) Will the printer scan to a pdf document?

2) What does this file name mean in the HP program file: USB Scanner connection is lost (Windows)_HP Customer Support_ files

 

I am reluctant to download any drivers because it dislocates my printer - I can't find it afterwards in the Devices and Printers window. In any event, they can't tell you what you need to do to scan - unless you just want to open up the Devices and Printers window, click on your printer and then click on  "Start Scan." And at that point your document options are JPG, BMP, PNG and TIF - all MS formats, Try sending one of those to a client expecting a PDF document.

 

Pretty trashy support, HP!

It's now 2016. I can answer your question; HP hasn't been listening and their scanning ability on this particular printer is not solved.

It's all BS. Your "Full Feature HP software" does NOT install. Therefore you are condemned to scanning using the Windows Fax & Scan utility. No PDF available!

HP is POOR at customer response beucase its outsourced overseas.

 

YOur problem is a scanner/motherboard in the printer problem.

We see it all the time in the North.

 

Remove, or delete (same thing, different words), printer.

OR get rid of the printer.

but you have some nice toys on this...Network, Fax, wifi!

 

call HP 800 number and be prepared to sit on line for a long time. During the evening is the best time.

scanning from the computer or the printer?

your scanning software (TWAIN), takes a long time to install.

 

Brother MFC is a much better software and machine.

hp community does have limited intelligent life. You have to install the twain part of your software.

your a university student, you are smart?? lol

you have all the toys on your M1217..read the instructions. open the flat bed, insert doc, close flat bed cover.

press scan..it should come up on your computer.

 

otherwise there is a $89 usd charge for further instructions. Download and READ the user manual.
