Greetings!

You may have to try out the following steps...

  1. Recheck the connections from your PC to the DJ 1050, if need be unplug both ends and replug.
  2. Try with a different USB Cable.
  3. From this document c03569585 Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor to check the connection between the printer and the computer, and to resolve scan issues, choose an appropriate OS to download the tool.
  4. In most cases the above should resolve the issue, else in the same document try the other steps.

Let us know if this resolved the issue.

Also let us know if you are able to scan from MS paint?

I work for HP!

I am getting the "An error occurred while scanning"  error whilst trying to scan from the HP scan software.

I can scan perfectly fine using other software such as MS Paint.

I have run the HP print and scan doctor software and it says everything is working fine.

I have the same problem did you resolve ?

It works thru paint - thru HP scan software it says "an error occured"
