I recently canceled my Instant Ink subscription. I purchased comparable HP cartridges for my HP envy photo 7855, and I am getting a message that “The indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer, if this problem persists, replace the cartridges”

I know these are the correct cartridges. How is Instant Ink able to render my printer useless for canceling my subscription? Has anyone else run into this issue?

The Instant Ink cartridges will not print unless you have an active Instant Ink account.

It appears you have defective third-party cartridges.  I would suggest cleaning the cartridge contacts and mating printer contacts as shown in the document here.  If that does not resolve the issue I suggest you contact your cartridge supplier for a replacement.
