HP Envy 5660

I have had problems for months now with my HP Envy All-in-One wireless printer going to sleep when it is idle and then not waking up.  I had to constantly unplug the unit and plug it back in every time I wanted to use it.  I bought two different models and returned them for this problem.  I spent hours on the phone with tech support trying to diagnose the problem.  They couldn't help me.  I bought a third model (5660) and had the same problem!!

I have spent countless days trying to figure this out, as I was sure all three different models could have been defective.  After looking at numerous posts regarding this problem, I saw suggestions that the router might be the cause of the problem.  Now, I am not a tech person, but I decided to investigate this further, or I was going to throw this 3rd printer in the trash and hang up HP for good!  I looked up my router's user's manual on-line and learned how to see what my IP address was.  I then went into the printer settings (advanced settings) and changed the IP address from automatic to manual.  I then changed the IP address on the printer to match that of my router.  It has now been six days and my printer no longer has the problem.

For all you in the same boat as me, it's worth a try!  I am VERY disappointed that HP has not addressed this, what appears to be a very common, problem and offered a fix!  I, as a consumer and not a tech person, should not have to spend countless hours and frustration trying to set up a printer!!

I'm having the exact same problem with my new Envy 5644 printing from my MacBook Pro. Just now I printed a document no problem. Two seconds later I try to print another and the **bleep** thing has gone in to idle mode. OMG I'm fit to be tied.

I've been scouring for an answer for a month now and nothing I try works.

So I'm going to try what you suggested flashtwo ty.

To you HP, I'm not tech savvy so what would take you guys 5 minutes to post a solution to resolve this will probably take me half a day and even then theres no guarantee it will fix the issue.

uuuugh

I'll be back....

I actually started having the same problem again.  Researching some other posts, I saw that I needed to find the beginning and ending range of the router's IP address.  I lowered the ending range on the router.  I then changed the manual IP address on the printer to a number higher than the ending range of the router.

The printer stayed connected and I was able to have web access.  It lasted a good two weeks with no problem and all of a sudden it started acting the same again.  So now, I'm back to square one.  I, too, am totally frustrated.  It should not be this hard to set up a printer!!

If I ever figure this thing out, I will post again, but for now, we are in the same boat.  We just have to keep plugging and unplugging if we want to use our printers (Arghhh!)

I feel ur pain. I continued to search for a solution but found nothing worked....so I gave up about a week ago.

So here's the funny thing. It's been working perfectly fine for the last week, no idle mode, no issues !?

But I'm waitin....cause I know it's gonna come back like a bad Cold sore as it always does.

Will I ever buy a HP anything again....eh No
