I obviously misread the instructions o my new Deskjet 3054 and inserted both ink cartridges in backwards. Now I cannot seem to get them out. I looked online and someone suggested a butter knife but they're still not budging. Any suggestions?

By backwards do you mean the color cartridge is in the black slot and vice versa?  If you are not able to gently pry the cartridge down a bit and then free it you will probably need to Contact HP for service.

OK, you will need to gently pry the back part (that is inserted into the printer) down a bit to release the cartridge.  Be very careful not to touch the nozzle area.  If this does not work you will need to Contact HP for service.  If the printer is new I think it should be covered under warranty.
