Ink Cartridges

Why aren't ink cartridges made of clear or translucent material so level can be observed?  Also, isn't it likely that the black cartridge material can contribute to poor ink viscosity (flow) in cartridge.  Not happy with amount of mostly text printing accomplished with cartridges for smartphoto 7520 let alone photos.  Anyone feel the same way,  having same experience?
