Any idea why the difference in driver functionality?  Unfortunately the E709 drivers do not have a feature to turn off the top/bottom margin increase when duplex printing which I also would like.

Finally, any idea why my PhotoSmart C6150 didn't have the ink drying pause while duplexing, but all new printers seem to have it (effectively cutting their duplexing speed by75%)?

I have no idea why the differences in the driver functionality.

AFAIK duplexing printers (starting with the Deskjet 970 a decade or so ago) have always had some delay for ink drying.  In some models this was aided automatically with a humidity sensor which would automatically adjust the time - printing in Arizona in the summertime requires a much shorter wait time than in Singapore in the rainy season.  It is possible that the default values have changed due to changes in the printing systems, or there have been too many issues with smeared print with a too short default time or ???  I really do not have any visibility into the driver development tradeoffs for these printers.

I'm sorry about bringing out this old message, but I have found some things about that feature that might explain things about it.

First of all, the drivers used by seems to not even support duplex printing management. By that, I mean that the part for duplex printing is the generic one, meaning there are no more options than the one which you can still find with single page printer. (Those option are "in-case-if" small light part of driver which are the current printer driver standard)

As for the "How do I turn it off?" question, that "‘Ink drying, please wait…" message can't be removed and is part of the printer system. It simply that the printer was build with a calculated method which require the ink to dry before starting printing the verso side. If it was removed, then the user would start to have some major problem after a while as there would be trails of inks on the rotation wheels which can result in a jamming of the whole printer (if a lot of ink is there, the small eletronical motor will start to force the rotation up to a point where it can break.). And it will result in dirtying the prints as the wheels will leave a trail of ink on the paper.

Donoghu, I had a C6150 before this and it printed duplex at full speed.  For a printer to slow down to less than 1/4 speed whern printing duplex is ridiculous.  Clearly HP knows how todesign a printer that doesn't need to do this (my older C6150) - the question is why did they take a step backwards with this model.
