HP Deskjet 1051 - cartridge 61
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The replacement cartridge for my HP 1051 is supposed to be 61, but it doesn't fit on the left side.  There is a little piece of plastic that stops the cartridge from going all the way into the slot.  (Note that the right side fits just fine -- it's the left that doesn't.)

I no longer have the original cartidge, so I can't compare it with the replacement.  How do I fix this?

Hi,

Please use instructions on page 29 of the following manual

I can't go beyond 4c on page 30 of that manual.  There's a piece of plastic on the left side of the slot.  It does not allow the cartridge to be installed.  If you look at the right slot, the plastic piece is on the right side of the slot.

What if I shave off part of the top on the cartridge itself?  Will the cartridge still work?

Hi,

All cartridges for a printer are designed to perfectly fit. Please return them if they won't fit.

Thank you for your replies, HP Expert, but this is already the second cartridge I purchased.  The problem is that the printer is made for two cartridges (color and B&W), but only one will fit properly at a time.  I wish I had saved my old cartridge.  The cartridge has a plastic piece on the top left side that cannot go past the plastic piece inside the cartridge holder.  (Please see my drawing.)

What function(s) do the plastic pieces on top of the cartridge serve?

This is really frustrating.  I can't be the only one with this problem.

What do the little plastic pieces on the cartridge do?  If I shave one off, so the cartridge fits, will the cartridge still work?
