PhotoSmart 6520 e-All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My PhotoSmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer just doesn't seem to give anywhere near the 300 pages or so that the ink cartridges are supposed to be able to do.  It almost seems as if they evaporate!  I use the genuine HP #564 cartridges.  What's going on here?  I don't print much or frequently, so it seems that they should last much longer than they do.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Is there a way to resolve it?

Thank you.

Hi,

For NORMAL/STANDARD printing, you should be able to get 300 pages when print continuously. A normal printing page is covered around 5% (plain text). If you printed in bold or over 5% coverage the number will reduce dramatically.

For example, you printed in bold or 10% page coverage, the number would come down to 150 pages or less.

One more thing: when rebooting, printer also consumes a bit of inks during the warming up process.

Regards.

So does this mean that every time I turn on the printer just to scan an item - and do no printing - it will use a bit of ink?  I scan a lot.

Most of my printing is very basic - a letter in plain text or the occasional coupon.

Perhaps I should order all XL cartridges next time.

My old HP all-in-one (I don't remember the model - it lasted for many, many years) never had a similar issue...and I printed a lot from that one - text and graphics.

Hi,

XL cartridges will give lower cost/page because normally they have a lot more inks inside but not cost much more. Physically the containers of XL ink cartridges are the same with normal ink cartridges.

I can literally print 5 pages and have to go spend another 40 bucks on ink. I've never seen anything like this. Worst printer I've ever had.
