I recently replaced my black ink cartage with a new HP black in cartage for the 8610.  Now when printing #10 envelopes, I have ink smears at the leading edge of the envelope also a few dark lines running vertically down the envelope where the adress goes and the bar code goes as well as in the postage stamp area.  This didnt happen until I changed the cartrige.  How do I stop it?

Hi! @colonelgofish

I understand after replacing the black cartridge you get ink smears while printing an envelope from your printer.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

What happens when you print using the old cartridge or a different cartridge does the issue still persist?

Have you tried printing on a different paper does the issue persist?

Please try Printing Quality Diagnostic Page from your printer on a regular paper and check if the issue persists.
Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page to identify the print quality issue.
Load plain white paper into the tray.
On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup, and then touch the Setup icon (). The Setup menu displays.
Swipe the display to scroll to Print Reports, and then touch Print Reports.
Touch Print Quality Report. The printer prints a test page.

Refer this article to further troubleshoot print quality issues.

Let me know how it goes!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

I made no changes to the printer.  The old cartridge did not do this.  I replaced the black cartrige for the first time and got these marks on the envelope.  This does not happen when printing a letter.  I ran the diagnostic test that you said to do and it appears correct.

Hi! @colonelgofish, Thanks for your quick response and time.

Kudos to you for trying out the steps.

Try with different settings in printing preferences.

Also, try using a different envelope size #9.

Paper type: toggle between-Glossy, Matt.

Toggle between size.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
