HP Recommended

Hi,

We use two HP Laserjet 600 M601 for invoiceand pick sheet printing along with original HP CE390A toner cartridges.  We print in batches unsupervised and don't want the toner running out mid batch so have always changed the toner cartridge when it advises us with the ! warning that toner is very low.

We are a wholesale butcher and have plenty of well calibrated scales so I decided to weigh a totally empty cartridge, a full one and an allegedly empty one.  They weighed 1300g, 1650g and 1540g respectively, meaning the "very low" cartridge still had 240g of toner remaining, or almost 70% of it's total capacity!

At a cost of around £170 per cartridge, that is a lot of money to be wasting, probably several thousand pounds wasted in the last 2 years for us.

How is the printer measuring the remainnig capacity of the toner and why is it advising the cartridge is empty and needs replaced so early?  Does it simply count how many pages are printed, as we only print a few lines of text on each sheet.
