I am trying to install my HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP to print from a MacBook Air running Mac OS X 10.8.3 but I get the error message when I try to "Add Printer" and install the software - "Setting up ‘HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP…" followed by

"Can't install the software for the Hewlett-Packard HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."

I can print the Test Page from fax mode but I can't print anything else because it only shows as a fax (listed as "HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP (Fax)") but not as a printer.

Hi,

Click the Apple icon and run Software Update, be sure to install any available HP or OS X update and then try adding the printer again.

If that does not help also try resetting the printing system:

*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.

Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
Select Print & Scan.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets.

Try adding the printer and check for any difference.

Finally, you may also install the software below, that should resolve the problem for sure:

I rang the 1300 phone support in Australia and the solution was as simpe as a reboot of my laptop which seem to do the trick. I was advised to tunr off the prinetr and computer and reboot my MacBook Air. The HP LaserJet 1536dnf MFP magically appeared as a printer. I have now also set it up to print view my home network over wifi. So all is good. Thanks to HP.
