A Windows 10 Remote Desktop user has a new OfficeJet Pro 8710 and would like to use the scanner to scan files to a network share via Remote Desktop Server 2008 R2.
It was interesting that printing remotely worked fine without installing any drivers. We had installed the drivers on the remote Win10 PC, connected with Remote Desktop Connection, the Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Server detected the printer, set it up as the default printer in the user's session and printing worked.
In order to use the scanner on the Remote Desktop Server, I found:
"HP Officejet Printers - Set Up the Printer on Windows Server 2003, 2008, or 2012"
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03351547/
which shows that several of the Officejet Pro 8600 models are compatible with Server 2008 R2 but not the 8710.
I tried the process on that page to extract files from the OJ8710_Full_WebPack_1881 and install O8710x64.msi, but got the error message "The Operating System of this computer is not supported..."
Rather than mess with a production 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Server, I figured it would be good to ask first.
Are there 8600 model drivers that are compatible with the 8710 that would install via "Install Application on Remote Desktop Server".
Cheers,
TimC

You may find the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) may provide the functionality - put the Officejet Pro 8710's IP address into your browser to bring up the EWS. The EWS provides options for scanning.

Hi Tim,
I have the same problem.
I have Office jet Pro 8710 on my local machine and Universal Driver configured on Windows Server 2008 R2
It shows the print is sent to the printer but i dont see anything printing.
Do you have any solution?
