Greetings All,

I had exactly the same problem with my beloved HP 4470.

There is a solution apart from making it into a boat anchor and buying a new one.

Just search for 4470 in the support forum and you'll see my post re installing an Oracle virtual box which works rather like the XP virtual machine which you could do in W7 but not W10.

My 4470 works with W10!

Shout if I can help.

Yes but realise as I have since stopped recommending a virtual box is because you have to have another legal copy of windows to run in it and most folks don't want to go that cost, let alone go through the trial and error of learning a VM.

Some lower end machines wont always run a VM very well either.

But yes, its a doable option.  Linux is a free alternative but like you pointed out earlier, its also a big learning curve.

Just my opinion.

Based on your advice, I purchased an Epson flat bed scanner "Epson Perfection V39" which handles 8.5 x11 originals, but includes s/w to stitch any size larger documents together so for the few times I use legal size or larger documents, this seems to work out well.  I have installed the 4470 on my wife's computer running XP so we are both satisfied.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
