I'm running a PCL6 driver for an HP Color LaserJet 5500dtn on Server 2012 R2 using the only driver available to me: the HP Universally Terrible Printer Driver.
When I go to the options for my printer on the server, according to HP documentation, I should see a section for installable options, like a hard drive in the printer. None of them are there.
Are these options just not available because they stopped supporting this printer in 2010? I would think not, since even downloading and installing the drivers on a Win7 machine still don't get me any installable options.
Anyone happen to know a workaround/fix for this?

Are you logged on as a user with full admin rights, or at least the rights to manage the printer. I'm forced to use the UPD for alot of 3rd party software programs, but as far as I know the installed options are always available- extra trays/ duplex etc.
Usually those specific user accounts do not have admin rights to manage a printer, so the settings are often not available to them. There are also many different versions of the UPD. 2012 servers may have the old pcl 6 driver as part of their base driver base- have you tried manually adding the printer via windows to see if its in the driver store locally?

Excellent points.
Yes, I am logging in and running the printer config with admin rights. I've tried a manual driver install and letting Server 2012 R2 auto-detect the printer as well. I've also tried multiple versions of the PCL and PS drivers, all to no avail.
None of them work, unfortunately.
