I am trying to install the new firmware for my 8620 printer. I downloaded the firmware labeled OJP8620_R1416A.

When I ran the app, it did find my printer on the network, but under status it says "Not applicable". It's presumably the right FW for the right machine (at least from what I see on your website).

What am I missing?

Hi,

What is your current firmware version?

Open the HP 8620 software and click on Printer Home PAge (EWS).

Open the Tools tab.

What is the listed firmware version?

if it ends with 1416XX or any higher number, the firmware is already up to date and therefore the error appear.

If the version number is lower then 1415, go to the Web Services tab and enable the Web Services.

Then select Product Update and click on Check Now.

May you been able to update the firmware this way or may the firmware was already up to date?

Hello,

My FW version is FDP1CN1348AR.

When I go to Web Services and select Check for Update Now, it tells me that the "printer has the most current updates installed". But from the FW version being reported, it does not have the most current update.

Thoughts?

Randy

That may happen due to a connectivity issue, lets try the following:

  1. Open the EWS and open the Network tab.
  2. Under the active network connection, click on IPv4.
  3. Select Manual IP and click on Suggest IP Address, it will populate the values in a few moments.
  4. Change the Primary DNS address to 8.8.8.8 and the secontdary to 8.8.4.4
  5. Apply and save the changes,
  6. Now go to the Web Services tab and check for an update again. do you still see the same results?

If so, I would suggest trying to plug a USB and then check for any difference while updating the firmware.

Finally, if the same persists, is this a newly purchased printer or may a device which been given? (e.g. a product upgrade, etc.)?

It is not a connectivity issue. I am able to connect to the Internet from the printer, download and print a document.

How do you apply an update via USB port?

From the HP 8620 software go to Utilities, then click on Printer Setup & Software.

Click on Connect a New Printer and select USB, follow the steps to configure a new USB device.

Once you are done, run the Firmware Upfate file once again from your PC and check for any difference.
