LASERJET M426 paper tray L1 door won't open completely

I have a new Laserjet M426 All in One. The door for paper tray 1 only opens about 45 degrees instead of opening 90 degrees/flat open. The user guide shows it opening it completely flat. I cannot find any type of release. It feels like the plastic would crack if forced open. Any suggestions?

Model # is MFP M426fdw. I thought paper tray 1 was for manual printing, which was one of the reasons I chose this printer. The inside of the door has a picture of an envelope & it also has adjustable paper guides.
