HP Officejet Pro 8600

The display on the control panel just disappeared and was blank. I tried the 3 different solutions HP support suggested to correct the problem but all it did was turn the display from black to gray, but still no way to use the controls.  I am able to print from the computers (using wireless) and able to scan using HP Scan and Capture App on the computer. The printer is not under warranty anymore. Any other suggestion to fix this issue?

@Retiree50

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand the LED Control Display is blank,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you try restarting the printer? Perhaps you could write more about the steps you've already done, so we don't repeat them!

Have you attempted a hard reset to fix the issue?

While you respond to that, here's everything you could do to fix the issue:

Solution one: Turn the printer off and then on again

Follow these steps to restart the printer.

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer.

  2. Wait 60 seconds, and then press the Power button to turn on the printer.

Solution two: Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet

Make sure that the printer is properly connected to a suitable power source.

  1. Press the Power button to turn off the printer.

  2. Disconnect the printer's power cord from any power strips or surge suppressors and then plug it directly into a grounded wall outlet.

  3. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, and then try to use the menu to check if the printer control panel is functional.

Solution three: Reset the printer

Follow the steps below to reset the printer.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Let me know how that works out, keep me in the loop and Good luck! 😉

I tried all 3 of the steps you listed. The display briefly turned white, then went back to black without a display.

Hi @Retiree50

I am the The_Fossette. It looks like you were interacting with @Riddle_Decipher, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

I recommend you to update the firmware of your printer and check if it helps.

Follow the steps in the below article to update the firmware.

Let me know how it goes.

Downloaded update to printer and it still hasn't resolved the issue with the blank screen. Any other suggestions?  I can print/scan but I can't copy or do anything that requires use of the control panel as it is blank.
