How do I locate the printer's IP address? I can wireless print when off VPN, but VPN administrator needs the address to validate the printer on the VPN (Cisco). Help is much appreciated as I am working remotely and need to print some documents.

Press the Go button once while the printer is in ready.  It should print a configuration page or 2 and the info will be on that.

Thanks for the response.  I did as you instructed and got one page Self Test/Configuration. It contained Product Information, Installed Personalities and Options, Memory Status Log, Page Counts and Print Settings.  But no IP address.  Is there another path to that information?  Pat.

Sorry I don't have time to figure out which page you need but here is the link to the doc that explains how to print out all the internal test pages - look over that and see if it helps.  If not, I'm out of time for today.  I can post back on Friday with some alternative ways by looking at the driver properties and other methods if we need to get that detailed.

Although if you didn't get a Jet Direct page to print, are you sure the printer is connected to the network or is it shared from another pc?

The link did not come through on  your post.  The printer is possibly working off my wife's MAC perhaps. We just replaced a faulty Linksys router with the Airport Extreme and I have not been able to access the printer via the corporate VPN since then.  Previously had no problem...my company tech support were surprised I was able to print on VPN previously...now they tell me if I can supply an IP address they will set me up so my printer is recognized on the corp VPN. I eagerly await any ideas you may have on Friday...have a safe New Year...and hopefully a prosperous one. Pat.

Sorry about that, too much of a rush to get out the door and home to my boys for the holiday!

Here's the link:

Read through and print off the print server configuration page.  This one should have the info you need.

I do not have a printer server...the MAC Powerbook G4 that contains information on the printer in the Utilities tab does not display a test capability. I was able to find a URI (not a URL) for the printer...but it looks wierd..mdns:1/Hewlett_PackardLaserjet1200._datastream._tcp.local/?bidi...so I am still on the wrong side of remote printing.  Any more advice will be much appreciated.  Thanks, PatL

If you don't have a jet direct card installed in the printer with a network cable attached to it, then you won't have an IP address and your IT person will have to look at other ways to get you printing again.  Sorry, just assumed that since you were trying to figure out your IP address that you had a jet direct print server installed.

Also, the test pages described in the document I listed, are printed directly from the printer, don't even need to be connected to a pc or mac to print them.

Thanks for the help. I am working with my Bangalore-based network administrator. Hoping that the Airport Extreme router IP address will suffice. Will test it at home tonight.  Fingers are crossed. Thanks again for the time you have put in on my problem. PatL

hp laserjet 1200 prints self test configuration but not the ip address. How do you get it to print that info.
