I have a LJ4 Plus with the JetDirect J2550B card installled. I have the IP address set for 192.168.1.149  My laptop IP address is 192.168.1.5

With this configuration I got the LJ4 Plus to print a "Printer Test Page".  Things looked good at this point. When I cycled the power on the printer it went 'Off Line' and I could not get it back on line.

I checked the front panel Menu and the CFG network =NO was displayed. I set it to YES and hit the ENTER to give the indication it was saved. I also set the CFG TCP/IP to YES and saved.

When I pressed the ONLINE key to take the printer on line it still showed as being Off line. Indeed going back to the Menu the CFG network again display NO. Also the CFG TCP/IP was NO.

Any suggestions as to why the configuration does not say with the printer. The same thing happens without the internet cable plugged in. Always setting the CFG network to YES resets to NO when leaving the Menu.

What operating system are you using?

I am using Windows 7. I can 'ping' the printer IP address and get the correct response. I just can't print and the printer shows 'Off Line' on the computer.

Upgrade the firmware, this is an old machine it most likely needs the upgrade to talk to windows 7. Also upgrade the driver to the latest.

I am not familiar with the procedure of updating the firmware for the LJ4 Plus. How is this done and where would I get the firmware update?

HP Recommended
I already have the latest driver installed.

Some additional information:

I am able to 'ping' 192.168.1.149  the IP address of the printer. I get the correct response that shows the printer should be On Line. The computer however is not able to print to the printer.

My computer operating system is Windows 7. I can work with the printer through the USB to Parallel configuration cable. The printe works fine with the the USB arrangement. Of course the computer configuration must be changed to the USB instead of the IP address.

Any ideas would be appriciated. I am starting to think this is a JetDirect card problem. I also put the card into a different LaserJet 4 Plus and got the same results.
