LaserJet 4025 CP4025
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
I have a CP4025 that displays the error code "49.FF04 Device Failure". It just started to have this problem but I can now no longer print.  I have tried shutting off the equipment and turning back on with no luck.  I have disconnected both the power and USB cables and re-inserted them.  It is a local printer and not used for a network.  Any sugguestions on a resolution?

49 errors are firmware errors.  First thing you want to do is disconnect the printer from the computer by removing the usb cable but keep the power cable connected.  Now turn on the printer and see if it comes to ready.  If it does, then the issue is a bad print job which is confusing the printer.  On your computer go into the printq and delete all pending print jobs and it should now work.  First thing you will want to do is a firmware upgrade to prevent it from happening again.  If you turn on without the usb or network connected and it comes to the error, then you are having a issue with your formatter and most likely it will need to be replaced.  There is a known issue with a chip that goes bad on the formatter and the formatter itself can not be repaired.
