Hi @Rejo,
I see by your post that you are unable to install the printer on Windows XP. I can help you with this.
We are going to start by reregistering the Windows Installer, downloading the latest drivers, turning off the startup programs to make sure there isn't anything interfering with the installation, then running the downloaded drivers.
Register the Windows Installer.
- Click Start, Run, type msiexec /unregister in the Open box, and click OK.
- Click Start, Run, type msiexec /regserver in the Open box, and click OK.
- Restart the computer.
Disconnect the USB cable.
Download and save the newest drivers.
HP LaserJet Pro 200 color M251 Series Full Feature Software and Drivers.
I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if that is causing the issue. How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
Restart the computer.
Double check the Antivirus is turned off.
Run the downloaded drivers, don't connect the printer until prompted if using a USB connection.
Test the printer.
Then you will have to go back in and turn the start up programs and Antivirus Software back on again.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet)
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
Have a nice day!
Thank You.

Hi Rejo, thanks for letting me know the error is before connecting the USB cable. Sorry to hear though, that you are still having the same results.
Usually when the installer stops before the USB cable is connected, it is a program or Antivirus blocking the installation.
Since you have already turned off the start up programs and Antivirus software, we can try and download and install the basic driver with out the bells and whistle software, to see if it will fully install.
First run the uninstall from the CD to make sure all the files and registry files from the printer are all removed.
Go to start, computer, right click on the CD and open. Double click on the uninstall please. Leave the USB disconnected.
Then download the basic drivers for the printer and run the install.
HP LaserJet Pro 200 color M251 PCL6 Driver with Installer.
Don't connect the USB cable until prompted.
Let me know if the basic drivers installed.
If you have another computer, try installing the printer software on it.
Thank You.

Hi Rejo,
Thanks for providing that information. You were able to install the printer on the Windows 7 computer, but even the basic driver won't install on the Windows XP computer.
Run all the Windows Updates on the computer.
Run the System File Checker. This utility allows users to scan for and restore corrupt Windows system files.

Run the Microsoft Fix It tool to see if it will help resolve the issue.

If the issue persists, I would create a new user account with Administrator rights and try the installation again.

Please let me know how this goes for you and if I can help any further!

Hi Rejo,
Thanks for letting me know that you are still running into issues installing the printer on the Windows XP computer.
Here is a document for MSI errors during a installation.
A 'Fatal Error' (MSI error) Displays on the Computer During HP Software Installation in Windows.
Follow these steps to find the error code in the Event Viewer.
Click Start ( ), and then click Run . The Run window opens.
- In the Run window, type eventvwr , and then click OK . The Event Viewer opens.
- In the Event Viewer pane (on the left), click Application . The Event Viewer results display in the right pane.
- In the Source column, find the most recent
Error entry from HP , and then double-click the error entry. The Event Properties window opens.
- In the Description section, look for a numbered code. This is the specific error message that you need for troubleshooting. Note the error code, and then continue to the next step.
Please let me know the results.
Thank You.
