Hi @sen2,
I see that you are having issues with the firmware update. I would be happy to help you.
Is the issue that you are unable to download the firmware, or to get the printer to update the firmware?
I had to load the website in Firefox, instead of IE. HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw Firmware Update.
I will send you another step to try in a private message.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
If the issue continues, please call our technical support at 800-474-6836 for further assistance. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

I had the same issue with the screen not working and the firmware installation fixed it.
Worth noting that when I checked for firmware updates using the installed HP utility, it failed to identify that anything was available. Follow the link in Gemini02's post, download and install directly.
I also had to restart the printer just prior to installing the firmware although this might just have been an issue with my Macbook pro - otherwise the firmware update kept freezing on initiation.

Had the same issue. I finally fixed the problem by taking the printer off the network and using USB to plug directly into the PC. That was the only way the HP firmware software would recognize the printer and perform the update. After the update everything was back to normal.

I am in the same boat - screen stuck on the logo. I have found the spot in HP Utility to upload a new firmware, but I cannot find anywhere to get the new firmware file. When I google that, I find the latest version of the HP utility, but cant seen to get the firmware file. Can someone send it to me?

Hi @IanGlazier,
I see that you are having issues with the firmware update. I would be happy to help you.
You can download the firmware from this URL. Select the proper operating system. This should be done with a USB connection. HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw Firmware Update.
If you have any issues opening it, try another browser, I would suggest to download and save the file, then run it.
If you appreciate my efforts, please click the 'Thumbs up' button below. Thank You.

I had alread y been at that URL and downloaded the software for OSX. I have run it and it seems to be an updated version of the HP Utility program? I tried dragging the dmg file to the firmware updater, but it eventually came back with a file not found type message. I looked in the attached documents folder, but there is nothing that I can find talking about firmware.
Help! 🙂

Hi @IanGlazier,
What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
I checked the website and the firmware update is available for 10.9 and lower.
Install Instructions:
- Mount the disk image containing the firmware update.
- Run the FW Update Application contained in the disk image.
- Follow the onscreen prompts to continue.
- Do NOT power cycle the printer or the PC during this process, or the printer may become unstable and/or unusable without further attention from HP. The firmware update can take several minutes to complete. Please be patient.
- To verify the update, a configuration page can be printed. The configuration page will display the current firmware revision in the product information section.
If you have access to another computer, I would try the firmware update from it to see if you have the same results.
If it is the link, I can pass this information on.
Hope this helps. Thank You.

My OS X version is 10.10.4.
I have downloaded the file, double click on it and it mounts. It opens up with 2 icons, One that is titled HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M176-M177 series, the other is a folder called Documents. I am not sure where to find the FW update application?
My kids have a couple of Win8 computers in the house, maybe I should try doing this with one of them?
