Laserjet 1320 pulls two sheets of paper (one after the other) when printing a single page. It does this when printing a test page.

As another example, if I hold the green button til it prints the configuration page (which is 2 pages), then it sends out 4 sheets total: the first page (followed by a blank page), then the second printed page followed by another blank page.

According to the configuration page, the total page count doesn't include the blank pages that follow each of the printed pages.

Oddly, I have several of these Laserjet 1320 printers that do the exact same thing. I have replaced the pickup rollers for both (which were worn enough to be smooth) and have cleaned the separation pads with alcohol.

Is there a sensor that should tell the printer to stop after it has picked up the sheet of paper?

I don't think you have a problem with the pick rollers or separation pads.  If that was the problem, the two sheets would go through the printer at the same time.  Something in the system is running a second sheet through the printer.  Have you installed new firmware recently?  Did the extra pages start suddenly, after a firmware upgrade, computer software change, or some system event like that?   Assuming your printers worked normally in the past, I would suggest that you install new firmware (or go back to older firmware if the problems started with a firmware upgrade) on one of your printers and see if that helps.

The cold reset didn't have any effect. Each page still comes out with a following blank page. Both printers jam frequently, but eventually 10 copies came out along with 10 blank sheets.

The firmware datecode is 20041024.

Sorry, I misread your instructions and printed 10 copies, but still got blank pages for each one.

What happen when you print a configuration page?
If the configuration page prints without extra pages then the problem lies in the computer. If it send extra pages with the config report it is in the printer.

Hello comput,

It is most likely to be a hardware issue related to Tray 2 Solenoid and in a very rear case the engine controller.

Try printing the same job from Tray 1 and check the results.

I'm having the same problem.  I tried printing through tray 1, but it also pulls a blank page.  Suggestions?
