We have a Laserjet 4200tn. When you first power it on, it displays "LOAD FILE AND EXECUTE". We discovered through trial and error that if you hit the down arrow to where it says 'Run' and click the check button 3 times, the printer will run the firmware and everything loads as it should. Printer works fine after that. But if it loses power or is cut off, it comes to the same screen. We tried to reload the firmware but this did not help. Is there a way to tell it in the firmware menu to automatically run the firmware on startup? Thank you.

Thanks for the help, but the Cold Reset was not even an option from the Load File and Execute menu. After digging around in the menu, I found an option that said something like 'Set runmode to manual'. I arrowed down to this and it let me change it to Auto. After this it works fine. Strange that this firmware menu isn't really documented anywhere, even in the service manual. Thanks again.

Hello, I work for HP, and while I haven't come across that particular problem, I did find a reference of something to try on another support site, this could be something to try:
If you hold down the pause/resume button whilst powering on the printer until all 3 lights come on the press the left arrow key and then press the tick button this will clear the internal hard drive and power up as normal

Hi, I work for HP,
To resolve this issue, perform a Cold Reset as follows:
1. Turn the printer power off.
2. Turn the printer power on, and then hold down (SELECT button) when the memory count begins.
3. After the message SELECT LANGUAGE appears on the display, press the UP ARROW button, or DOWN ARROW button until COLD RESET is highlighted.
4. Press the SELECT button. The printer performs a cold reset, and then continues its power-on sequence.
This is what you seem to have done and issue gets resolved temporarily. I suggest try upgrading firmware through a USB cable or via network and check if it resolves the issue.
