On a laptop running Windows 8 (I have tried several times, including rebooting):

Whether running LJ-Pro-200-color-MFP-M276-driver-installer-14057.exe or LJ-Pro-200-color-MFP-M276-full-solution-14057.exe I get the same error:

A problem occurred while preparing to install software to your system.  Please restart your computer, and run this installer again.  If the problem persists, please check the product web site for your product.

MSIExec command: /i"C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS7B6C\Setup\Core\SIPM-64\HpTcpMon64.msi" /qn

REBOOT = ReallySuppress

Path: <empty>

Return code: 1603

Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Thanks for providing the detailed reply hpr7busr. I see that you are getting a error during the installation. I would really like to be able to help you today.

Disconnect the USB cable and run the uninstall to make sure all the printer files are removed.

Try the steps in this document to see if that will help resolve the issue. You will notice the latest operating system is for Windows 7. If you are not sure how to access the ones provided in the document for Windows 8, just let me know.

Run the installation again with Admin Rights.  Right click on the install and select Run as Administrator.

To access the Run command in Windows 8, in desktop mode, press the Windows key and R at the same time, to show the run command line.

Here is a URL to temporarily disable all the start up programs to see if one of them is causing any issues.

Turn off any Antivirus software.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Dear Gemini02, thank you for the link to Fatal Error 'Error 1603...'

I have tried all 4 suggested solutions but each time I get the same error, with the following message:

Please let me know if you have any other ideas.  Thanks.

Hi hpr7busr, Thank you for providing that error for the "HP Support Solutions Framework Service".

What Laptop do you have?

Gemini02, my laptop is an HP ENVY m4.

I ended up creating a new administrator user and tried reinstalling from there.  Unfortunately, I got exactly the same 'HP Support Solutions Framework Service failed to start' error...

Thanks for letting me know hpr7busr .

I would setup a restore point on the computer before doing the following steps listed below. This way, you can always restore the computer back to that time. How to Create a Restore Point in Windows 8.

What version of .NetFrameworks do you have?

To find out, go to Solution four: Check the Microsoft Windows Installer version and upgrade to the latest version from the document in the previous post.

Run all the Windows Updates.

"The HP Software Framework provides a common set of software interfaces that centralize and simplify access to hardware, BIOS, and HP specific drivers that work with the Microsoft Windows Operating Systems."

Open the HP Support Assistant, click the Maintain section, when inside the maintain section click Refresh icon, see if there are any HP updates available, maybe an update to the HP Software Framework.

You might need to download the HP Software Framework.

Let me know how you make out.

Thank You.

Dear Gemini02

Prior to receiving your latest recommendations I contacted HP SmartFriend Services.  There was a problem associated with being unable to start the printer spooler service.  As far as I could tell, this problem was resolved by eliminating one of the dependencies and it was apparently caused by the latest Windows update.  Thanks again for all your help.
