My wife bought a HP LaserJet P1606dn two weeks ago. The printer was working well up until the toner light started blinking in the middle of a print job. Knowing the toner cartridge that comes with the printer would not last we replaced it with a new, HP sealed 78a toner cartridge. However upon replacing the cartidge the printer continues to show the toner light blinking and is not doing anything else.

Up to this point we have:

* rebooted the printer

* rebooted the connected computer

* checked for paper jams in all locations as per the manual

* reseated the new cartridge several times

* checked the media guides and adjusted the amount of paper said guides

* did a factory reset by unplugging the printer overnight, plugging it back in, turning on the printer, and then holding down the two buttons on the console until all of the indicator lights blinked at the same time three times.

Nothing I have found in the manual or online has helped. The toner light continues blinking and their is no mechanical response from the printer.

After attempting the reset a second time and it not working, I continued my search on Google for the answer to the problem I was having and was able to find the solution. On a couple of websites it had been noted that uncleared paper jams would cause the toner light to blink. There was no paper in the printer's various jam locations, so I carefully examined the printer with a high powered LED light and found a barely visible scrap of paper sitting behind the rollers that feed printing area in the main body of the printer. I was able to just fit a pair of tweesers between the plastic and the rollers to remove the bit of paper and found it was sitting directly on top of one of the paper sensors. After removing said piece of paper I powered on the printer and it is now functioning normally.

So for the future reference of whom it may concern: if the toner light is blinking on your HP LaserJet P1606dn and your cartridge is not being recognized, double check that no bits of paper are somehow stuck/jammed inside of your printer. A very minor paper jam may be your issue. (And be careful sticking anything inside your printer! Don't accidentally damage your printer!)

And thank you TECH58 for your time and quick reply. It may not have been the solution but it is nice to get something back when you are not expecting it.

Hi, You can try reset your printer,

1. Turn Off your printer.

2. Press the two buttons in the operation panel in your printer (button like "X" and the button like a page, with a check symbol inside ), you need keep pressing the buttons when turn On the printer.

3. When you see all the lights are blinking, you can release the buttons and printer is reset.

4. If the problem persist when turn on the printer, you need check your cartridge chip and the printer cartridge contacts, you can clean with a microfiber or kitchen paper if you don´t have microfiber.

5. If your problem persist try with other cartridge. but if this steps can't resolve your problem you need contact us again.

Luckily, we welcome your comments.
