Sadanand,

I would suggest that you look at your contrast settings in your control panel.

How many pages have you printed?  Often a cartridge needs to be broken in (20-100 pages).  Does the printer eventually return back to being darker after a certain number of pages?

It is recommened that you use genuine HP cartridges to have proper print quality.  There is no way to qualify what you are seeing if you are refilling an old cartridge.  For more information on supplies, please visit here: http://www.hp.com/sbso/product/supplies/suresupply/index.html

Sadanand,

If you are still using the introductory cartridge and have printed more than 1200 pages, then this is the reason that you are having a light printing problem. Introductory cartridges, in general, will print approx. 700 pages. A regular cartirige should, in general, print approx. 1500 pages. Please change your cartridge and see if this fixes your issue.

Here is the cartridge number you will need:  HP LaserJet Black Print Cartridge CC388A
