I arrived at the customer and realized the unit was locking up when scanning to a usb stick. After being on the phone with HP Tech support and them also experimenting in their lab. The HP T-830 Designjet can only scan to a dedicated usb stick. The usb stick must be formatted and empty. When you scan to the usb stick the unit automatically creates a folder which it scan to all day. If the usb stick has any other folders or files the scan to usb function will lock the unit. Me and HP tech support came to the conclusion that of the dedicated usb stick with no other files except the folder that the Hp created on the usb stick.

Please goto EWS access and active USB to Scan. Then lets again, if their have any folder, scanner will working properly and store scan copy.
Remember: USB formate type should FAT formate otherwise scanner not detect the USB thumb drive/Pen drive.
