Hi Everyone,
I would like to collect some additional information to help me figure out if there is a certain scenario or steps you all took when the issue occurred on the printer. If you could please message me this information in a private message I will then be able to look at a possible trend, and then attempt to reproduce the issue on my unit.
When this occurred were you installing the printer on a new computer?
Where you prompted to do an update, or during an installation did you choose to update?
Have you ever updated the firmware on this printer previously?
What is the firmware version listed on the configuration report?
Any additional information will assist me with isolating the root cause.

downloading this software:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL32629/Im-80811-5/LJM1130_M1210_MFP_Full_Solution.exe
My printer was network connected- running the software, clicking on defaults- the firmware update proceeded, and then proceeded to brick the printer. i do not remember the exact steps because it has been more than a month. but i do remember that i did not select anything other than the default installs.

I'm having the exact same problem... looping "Initialzing" message on M1212nf printer, didn't install firmware but was installing the full software downloaded from HPs site. Tried everything posted here and still no luck (as many others have)
I can't believe HP's own software caused this and they won't provide a solution or free replacement, regardless if it's under warranty or not. Switching out all my HP printers in my company to Brother now as we recyle them, I was indifferent before but now have a good reason to stay away from HP.

I bought this Laserjet M1212nf over two years (Nov. 2010).
It is out of warranty.
I used it very lightly, a few times a year.
It worked perfectly before March 2013.
I am not sure whether the problem started after I downloaded and updated M1212 software from HP web or I updated Windows 8 Home edition to Windows 8 Pro in April.
Here are the things I tried:
If the printer was connected home network router, it will have initializing loop for ever.
If I disconnected cable from network router and connect my computer directly to HP M1212, it was initialized and was ready for use. But when I tried to print, it gave error massage "HP printer did not respond".
When I tried to scan a document, it showed a message "there is a communication error" (not exact words).
I tried a different cable and verified it was not a cable problem.
I tried to print it over 30 minutes and I did print it once but I can't repeat print it again even with same connection.
It is very frustrating for me the printer can't perform either print or scan task.

I could not find the original software disk with printer.
I really want to remove the new version software and reinstall the original one to see whether it fixes the problem.
Could HP provide the M1212nf original software for downloading?
If HP could not solve the problem due to issue of the new version software, at least it should provide the original one as a temporary solution for customers to be able use their printers.

I just bought new M1212nf printer last 2 week, last night I setup printer, working good, test print out 3 pages and test copy eveything work. then I just went to HP website download firmware update. Run update, I got stuck in about 50% for 30 minutes. I have to turn off then turn printer on...I get stuck in the initialization loop forever. Now my new printer is useless.
