Hello,

Is there a possibility to turn off sleep or auto-off setting?

It is very unconvinient to manually turn on a printer few times a day, when you want to print.

Printer is configured for Wi-Fi and when you print to a sleeping or automatic turned-off printer, it shows error.

Hello, @Dave_Majak - Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a dynamite location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I understand you want to turn off the sleep mode in your Laserjet printer. I will do my best to help you with the issue. Please check the steps below:

  • Find the IP address of your printer:
  • Press and hold the Cancel button  until the Ready light  blinks.

  • Release the Cancel button .

The Self Test/Device Configuration page prints. - Make a note of the IP address.

  • Once you obtain the IP address, open a web browser on your computer (E.g. Google chrome / Safari / Internet explorer).
  • Now type the IP address in the browser address bar to get the “Printer EWS page”.
  • Search for “Energy save” / “EcoSMART console” option in the home screen. If you cannot find the option in the home screen, then navigate to “System” tab and look for “EcoSMART console”.
  • You will find the “Sleep Delay” and “Power Down After Delay” options – Turn off both the options.

Let me know how that goes. Good luck!

Cheers 🙂

Hello, @Dave_Majak

Thanks for the update!

I understand that you cannot turn off the Sleep feature of the printer. But you should be definitely able to turn off the "Auto-off" feature if such an option is enabled.

Regarding the Sleep mode feature, it is designed in such a way that the printer will wake up from the sleep if you perform any printer job like a print or copy. If the printer does not wake up from sleep while giving a print, then you can try disabling the IPv6 feature and assign a manual address to the printer which could help you fix the issue. Try the steps below:

•    Obtain the IP address as suggested in my above post and type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

•    Restart the printer and the router and check.

PS: The steps might be slightly different on you printer since it is different on certain printer models. But the idea is the same. Disable the IPv6 & assign a manual IP address and the DNS address.

Let me know how that goes!

Cheers 🙂

Thank you for assistance.

I am unable to find option to disable "Auto-off" as You could see in screenshots in post before.

I have configured printer to have static IPv4 and disabled IPv6.

Is it necessary to wake up printer with print job? I will try with user as soon as I can.

Since then, printer was asleep within hour and could not be awaken by opening EWS.

Hi! @Dave_Majak, I am the MrRobot. It looks like you were interacting with @Dvortex, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Kudos to you for trying out the steps.

You cannot turn off sleep or set auto-off setting on the printer.

The printer will wake up only when the print job is sent to the printer.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂
