HP Laserjet Pro MFP M476dw
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

We have just purchased a HP Laserjet Pro M476dw to replace our Epson and Samsung Printers.

Our Epson was used for scanning, which as a paperless office, we have in volumes when scanning incoming documents onto our case files.

We have set up the Scan to Network Folder option, however, when scanning from the Printer Itself to a Network Folder on our Server, it is taking 2-3 minutes BEFORE it starts to actually scan.

When it does scan, it flies through no problem, but the 2-3 minute wait after pressing the button is eating into our day.

If we scan 20 bits of incoming post, it is taking an extra hour just waiting for the scanner to start.

What causes this and what can we do to speed things up.

Using the Scan function from the PC is not an option as that would involve running up and down stairs to load the scanner and then back down to use the PC interface, before running back up again.

Aside from the fitness regime that would implement for our employees, it would still add an hour to the day...

Same issue here with a different device (M277dw + QNAP NAS)... however, the delay only appeared after power-on and longer inactivity of the printer.

I suspected an issue with either name resolution or authentication.

So I tried to set up a WINS server, but it didn't help.

Next I changed the scan folder to use the server's IP address instead of name  (\\server\public --> \\192.168.0.100\public). Looks like this did the trick (but not 100% sure yet).

Make sure to power cycle the printer after making any changes to the configuration.

Hope this helps - good luck!

Mandorena,

Thank you so much!

That has resolved the issue and the scanner now flies along.

I'm also having this issue - but slightly different - the first page scans OK then the printer seems to take about a minute to process it before moving on to the next page, and then another minute wait whilst it processes that and so on....

Is this something to do with the OCR - is it possible to turn this funtion off somehow (saying that I have opended up documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro and the files don't seem to be showing as text so not convinced it's working/on in the firstplace).

Hmm... not sure I can help you with that one, I'm afraid. The M277dw does not support OCR - does your printer?

However, I notice a short stop after scanning a page too. It's approx 1s when scanning to PDF and anything between seconds and minutes when scanning to JPEG. What are your scan settings?

Scanning to PDF - 150ppi and scanning to colour & B&W but doesn't make a difference that I can notice. The shared folder is on my MacAir - if that makes any difference...

Forgot to say - specs say OCR but cannot find any options for it anywhere.

Changed the folder path as per above but not no difference made...

That's beyond my knowledge 😞

Works fine here with your settings and my standards (PDF/600dpi/color), but it's a different device.

Everything ok with your network? Does a laptop connected to the same cable perform as expected?

Sorry I can't help. Anyone else?

One last thought - did you always *power cycle* the device after making changes to the config?

Yeah - but I had to google it mind...
