Have an M601, printed to  mainly by Mac's, and we see these error's together often.  It also seems that after the user see's the error it, the next page will have a black horizontal line, or it will not print part of the first line.

The customers IT have checked and found that some users were using a "generic" print driver.  However, the user seeing the horizontal or partialy printed line did have the correct driver.  Have been battling this for a couple of weeks now, but are not getting anywhere.  Any idea's?

41.03.02 is media size miss match, it thinks the media in tray 2 is different to the one specified.

First checks would be the printer configuration to check what it thinks is loaded, then check this against the pc drivers in case something is trying to over ride the setting.

If you print an event log you will see the frequency of the error so at least you will know how often to expect it as you might find it will take a while to come up.

I've had issues with some media debris in the feed rollers (this assembly is behind the tray 1 assembly so you would remove tray 1 pick up to see these rollers), this caused some drag on the media which meant the printer measured it (using the top of page flag) incorrectly, it then reports a 41 error.

In some cases where that was suspected a piece of firm, thin card can be pushed from the paper tray up into the print cavity, it often dislodges the piece of media.

If you know the jam frequency then you could test the printer stand alone and just run paper path test for example, running this would run the printer at full engine speed and if you knew you got this error say every 50 pages then you can run the test until you're happy you have not reproduced it.

If it gave the same error without using the PC then you know you're fault finding on the printer. If not then I would check driver settings carefully.

A couple of questions to try and isolate your issue:

What size and type of media causes the errors?

Does the issue occur at a certain height of paper remaining in the tray 2?

Are there overlapping multi-fed pages?

Recommendations:

  • Ensure the rollers are in good condition and installed correctly
  • Ensure that the media is in good condition when loaded in the tray
  • Ensure that the tray guides are set to the correct size

Dave,

We have tried the paper path test from tray two for up to 250 pages with no issues at all.  Customers IT said they checked drivers, and corrected a couple that were not right.  We have never seen it happen, only see it in the error logs.  According to customer it does not matter how much paper is in the tray, No overlapping pages, and there is only 20,000 pages on it.  They only have letter, and everything is set for that.

You were right on with the debri in the paper path. This printer would print out one page and give the 41.03.02 error. After changing the paper sze detect switch, I started blowing out the printer with canned air. When I blew out the area just before the registration, a very small piece of paper came out of that section and the machine started working. Thanks!
