LaserJet Pro MFP M277
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed HP LaserJet Pro MFP M277 on two computers and works OK.  Tried to install on a third which is a Dell XPS 13 with Windows 10. The printer will install, but the scanner will not. The installation gets to 78% and then get a red circle X error that said installation failed and to try again.  Had two HP support people separately try for an hour each to get to work with no success. They deleted and reinstalled, reset settings, turned off firewalls, all to no avail.  My guess is there is some setting in windows that is blocking.  I tried to do this with a wireless connection and then tried with the software disc in a CD reader attached with USB.  Same result.  Any ideas?

@JohnC22-_8,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are facing issues with setting up your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277 wherein the installation stops at  78%.

This issue could occur if the old software is not removed completely.

Let's go through a few steps to resolve this issue.

And here's the step by step guide for you below to uninstall and download and reinstall the printer:

Step 1: Uninstall the Drivers:

Please follow the steps provided to uninstall the printer software in the link: Uninstalling the Printer Software (Windows)

Also, please follow the steps provided below to completely remove the printer software from printer properties.

Steps to remove printer driver files from Print Server Properties:

  1. Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing one of the following:
    • Click the Start menu and in the search field type 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click it in the search list.
    • Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK.
    • From the Start menu or the Start screen:
    • Open Devices and Printers.
    • Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window.
    • Click on the Drivers tab.
  2. Select the printer driver you wish to uninstall.
  3. Click the Remove button.
  4. Select "Remove driver and driver package" and click OK.

Step 2: Download and install the Drivers from the link: Full Software and PCL 6 Driver

If the full feature drivers do not install then you may download the basic drivers from the link: HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 (64-bit)

Let me know how this works.

You have a good day ahead.

Thanks for the suggestion.  This is essentially what one of the support techs went through and did, first deleting throughout numerous files all the references to HP and then installing the PCL 6 Driver.  But that did not solve the issue as when we reinstalled, we got the same failure notice.  I have been able to get the printer to print every time and ever way the drivers were installed.  It is the scanner software that fails to load (and maybe the fax though I am not connecting to that and don't know).  When I try to load the full software via wireless or with the CD, it repeatedly fails at the same point of 78% installed.  There is clearly a piece of code that this installation runs up against that causes the crash, but I have no idea where that might be.

It looks like you were interacting with @Rainbow23, but he's out for the day

And I'll be glad to help you out.

The Riddle_Decipher is at your service,

Considering the printer works fine on the other two computers and not with the one you seem to have issues with, I would recommend you Contact the manufacturer of the computer to obtain the much-needed assistance,

that said, you could attempt using the windows built-in drivers: Click here for details and then reply back with the product number of your computer if it's manufactured by HP.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
