HP Photosmart 5520 printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Where on my printer do I position a 4x6 photo in order to copy it on to 4x6 photo paper? I placed it (with the 6 inch side on the bottom) in the bottom right corner and it only printed the top half of the photo. Would appreciate any help.

  2. Load original.
    • Lift the lid on the product.
      Figure : Lift the lid
    • Load the original print side down on the right front corner of the glass.
Figure : Load the paper with the top edge of the original in the right front corner of the glass
    • Close the lid.
  3. Specify number of copies and settings.
    • From the Home screen, touch Copy.Touch arrow buttons to change the number of copies.
    • If the 2–Sided option is selected, touch it to clear the selection.
    • Touch Settings to specify paper size, paper type, quality, or other settings.
  4. Start copy.
    • Touch Black or Color.

If that does not work as expected, Use your printer software to scan the image into your computer.

Example using Printer Software (HP Scan):

Printer_Assistant_Scan_to_JPG_1.JPG

Set the Scan Size to the size of the photo -- If the scan cuts the image,

  • Rotate the image on the glass

OR

Check Show scan preview > Scan Size to "Entire Scan Area" > Scan >

When scan completes, drag little boxes around the scan to match the boundaries of the image >

Save the scan

NOTE that leaving the scan size to "Entire" without editing the boundaries before saving the file will leave a large white border around the image.

To Fix an image that has the large white boundary around the edges:

Open the image / photo in Photos > crop and rotate > Move the circles close to the edges of the image and crop out the rest of the blank area > save

OR

Exceptional software that provides "Auto Detect" to find, auto-crop, and scan your image:

Download and Install HP Scan Extended

Set Scan Size to "Auto Detect"

Thanks for the rely, dragon-fur, but you neglected to tell me that you need to first go into settings to change the picture size from 8x11 to 4x6. I kind of found this out by trial and error in settings. There is an option to "re-size". You need to hit the arrow to the right to get a drop down menu where you change the size of paper.

Thanks again,

Ralavac
