Hello, my computer recently has been deplaying the message "the program can't start because MPR.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I checked and the program is there but i have no idea how to repair this. I am not being able to use any games or open any adobe reader documents. I wanted to install my Norton antivirus and i am not being able to do it either. When i try opening any of the above the window disappears. Any ideas of how to fix this? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello, @pris87 – Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!
I understand that you are getting “Missing MPR.DLL” error message on your PC. I will certainly do my best to help you with this issue 🙂
Let’s first try to restore your PC to a point before the error started. If the issue started happening after a recent update, then you might be able to restore the system to a point before. System Restore automatically creates restore points, a memory of the system files and settings on the computer at a particular point in time. Then, when you use System Restore to restore your computer to a point in time before an issue began, System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected.
Go to http://hp.care/2hcpnfN and follow the steps under “Restore your computer when Windows starts normally”.
If the issue persists, then try to follow the steps below to re-register the mpr.dll files:
- Click the Start button.
- Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
- While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
- You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
- Click Yes.
- Type the following command: regsvr32 /u mpr.dll.
- Hit ENTER. This will UN-REGISTER your file.
- Type the following command: regsvr32 /i mpr.dll.
- Hit ENTER. This will RE-REGISTER your file.
- Close the command prompt window.
- Re-start the program associated with mpr.dll error.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂

Dvortex, thank you for the answer. I have tried restoring it to a previous restore point but unfortunatelly I don't have one. A couple of months ago my computer crashed completelly and I had to send it for repair. So I got it back and everything wiped off as brand new, everything had been working wonderful until this message has been appearing lately when i open the games or adobe reader documents. I backed up my important files and tried reseting to factory defaults and the reset process starts and at 2% says there was a error and everything has been left the same. I have tried many different ways and I have not been able to reset it.
I just tried what you told me and as soon as I hit enter after typing regsvr32 /u mpr.dll in the command box an error appears saying "the module 'mpr.dll' was loaded but the entry point DLLUnregisterServer was not found. Make sure that mpr.dll is a valid DLL or OCX file and try again."
I appreciatte your help so much.

Hello, @pris87
Thanks for the update! Appreciate all your efforts 🙂
Since you have already backed up the data and was trying to perform a system reset, I would suggest performing a system recovery. This option reformats the system drive (usually C:), reinstalls the original operating system and reinstalls all the original hardware drivers and software.
Go to http://hp.care/2d8t85o to get detailed steps for performing system recovery on your PC.
You can follow the steps under "Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly" to perform the recovery.
Let me know if that helps!
Cheers 🙂

@Dvortex
Thank you for responding. I have went and started following the steps of "Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly" I completed step 4 and on step 5 my menu was not the same. I only had 2 options instead of the 4 and "recovery manager" which is the option I need to click on, is not one of them. So i was not able to do the entire process. I was trying to access the recovery manager from my search bar and it doen't apper like something that is installed in my computer either.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you!

Hello, @pris87
Thanks for the update and appreciate your efforts 🙂
It looks like its an issue with the recovery partition is not available or has some issues. You can try the software update to fix this issue.
Again go to http://hp.care/2d8t85o and check the steps under "Issue with the HP recovery manager".
Once you install the software patch, restart the PC and try the PC and try the recover again.
If the issue still persists, then the only option is performing the recovery using the recovery media. Check the "Recovery using the media you created" for detailed information.
Hope that helps! Let me know 🙂
Cheers!
