I have the 8610 all-in-one and I've received the "Missing or Failed Printhead" message. Looks like this is the kiss of death. I've removed the printhead as advised several times, unplugged the printer as instructed (seriously?), and removed the ink cartridges. I loved this printer, but after only a year-and-a-half it's already done? It will cost me $120 for a replacement printhead carriage for a printer I can replace for $100.

HP, this is the worst. I thought you were a "green" company, but what's green abotu tossing out a printer less that 2 years old?

Unreal.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve the missing printhead error on your Officejet Pro 8610.  If the first two solutions (including multiple reseating of the printhead) do not resolve the issue I would suggest cleaning the printhead and the electrical contacts on the printer.  Use a damp lint free wipe (a clean coffee filter works well) to clean the electrrical contacts, then go back and repeat the steps in solution two.

Hey, Bob,

Thanks for the input and sorry for being catty on another thread. I'm just really disappointed with this product. I have tried all of these steps including the cleaning of the electrical connections. I think I'm just going to have to go another route...
