I moved my printer, when I hooked it back up it wouldn't work. I uninstalled and printed the information sheet it gives me the IP address but when i type that into the browser it says "it takes to long to connect" or "the firewalls are on" or "trouble shoot". I turned the firewalls off and tried again and it didn't work, I connected to trouble shoot and it said it could not connect to the device at that IP address.

Hello, @smangano21 – Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for joining the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.
I understand that you are having issues while printing to your LaserJet printer after moving the machine. I guess the issue here is caused due to the printer not getting connected to the correct network or the new IP address is not added to your PC.
Let’s first try to fix this issue using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2bZ9w2q to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.
If the issue persists, also try to perform a clean install of your printer. Here are the steps:
- First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP LaserJet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL42911/lj-104373-5/LJ-M401-full-solution-15188.exe to install the software.
- Connect the USB cable if needed and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Good luck 🙂

You need to get the ip address of the computer and make sure the address of the printer is in the same frame. To do this go to a command prompt and type ipconfig and hit enter. It should give you the ip address for example 192.168.1.3 Now on the printer run the config page again and see what the address is of the printer. It should be for example 192.168.1.5 Now at least the first 3 sets of numbers have to be the same. If they are not on the printer you need to go into the resets menu and restore factory defaults which should reset the network and the printer should find a new ip address. Use the new ip address to load the printer using the add printer, next, local printer and at the bottom check create port and in the drop down choose standard tcp/ip and on the next screen enter the printers ip address and follow the instructions as the computer should load the drivers and finish setting up the printer for you.
